Hey, Ya know......I've read these comments and I'm shocked at the behavior of ya'all! We are all deaf and part of a community. I'm tired of seeing deaf people hating each other and all that crap. I've relocated to another area because of all this drama and crap. I think it takes great skill to graduate from Gallaudet or NTID or any place that matters and go out there in the world to find a job. I am heartbroken to see that like the gentleman that tried to apply for a job and was told that they saw G on the news and were not interested in hiring them.
People like you who badmouth each other and complain need to grow up and stop acting like immature children. I'm deaf myself and I'm successful and well known in my career that I dont even have to bother passing out resumes because my reputation is impeccable and people come to me offering me jobs.
I'm sick and tired of deaf people coming to me looking for work when really number 1 they prefer to have someone hand them a job instead of going out there to look. I'm sick and tired of deaf people who depend on their social security benefits and whine that they cna't find a job. What? You can't find a job or you WON'T take the guts and courage to go out there and find one? That social security is part of our retirement and we all work hard for it.
I've heard that SOB story, " Oh I can't do that job because I can't hear" . WHATEVER! There are plenty of jobs out there that don't need phones or need to communicate with people! Start somewhere. There is no such thing as an embarrassing job.
It seems you people here have nothing better to do with all the time you have on your hands to sit there on your A** and gossip, backstab, call people liars.
This is what gives our community a bad name. I know a few people who really make an effort to find jobs but they get turned down. Gee, I wonder why? Do you think maybe its because those people have seen how deaf people carry on in public? Do you think they see deaf people as lazy morons? Do you think maybe they view deaf people as uneducated people? They see your behavior our there in the real world and it's time you all start acting like adults.
You all want respect? Try earning it instead of expecting a handout. There's plenty of good hardworking deaf people out there and its sickening to hear this kind of crap about Chris or his mother or whatever whatnot.
Find something else productive to do instead of sitting here mouthing off.

I am well-respected deaf in both deaf and hearing world. I use ASL. I don't go Gally. I work as professional field. That's all I can say about myself. I am the oldest brother in the family. I have young brother who is hearing and he's much more trouble with law, friends, etc. He was arrested and went to jail. Let me repeat, me as Deaf - good guy while my brother as Hearing - trouble. Don't get me wrong, my mom and I treat my brother equally and he has his own struggles. He's now doing much better because he get the supports!
The way you see about deaf community is what you already decided since you born that deaf kid. My mom already decided what she will treated me when she discovered me as Deaf. She let me live the fullest possible of life I can take. My mom is wonderful mother in all over the wide world. I am very thankful that you are not my mom. I can imagine living with you can lead my life exactly same as your son had gone thru. Coincidence? Nope, it's because of your attitude!

It really doesn't matter if your deaf son or daughter involved these problems. It was the parent responisble to teach their kids to not involved with drugs, end up in jail, or any other bad things. I don't know Chris and I know all other college or university have the same problems. Not just Gallaudet University. I am deaf and I was raised with mainstream without sign language. My parent taught me not to involved bad things. I did end up in trouble and it was my fault.
As for the kids who graduate from High School, they may end up drugs, trouble with the law and etc. That is their problems and parent cannot put the blames other people!!!!! It was nobody fault, it had nothing to do with sexual, colors, and etc. Parents need to accept their children no matter if they are deaf, mental, color, sexual and etc. And it always parent responisble to teach the kids in the right way!!!! WHEN THEY ARE OVER 18 YEARS OLD, THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT TO AND YOU HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!!!

While I am Deaf, I don't know Christopher and I don't go to Gallaudet, so I'm pretty much a bystander here. And, I have to say the comments seem far more troubling than Chris' message. To the mother, I'm not sure what your real issue here is, but I doubt the Deaf community is truly to blame. Your rant on homosexuality is only among one of the signs in your comment that indicate something deeply personal within you and your family that really has nothing to do with the Deaf community. I grew up in a bi-bi program at a school for the Deaf where I learned ASL and English. Many of my peers and I thrived and went on to college and then graduate school. Many are also starting families of our own, and are fully functioning citizens, involved in our communities, and our families are quite proud of us. Some of these peers went to Gallaudet, some didn't, but all were involved in the Deaf community and obviously haven't been tainted by it in any way. It seems your real issue is with homosexuality, not deaf people.. and its pretty obvious you have some deep seated prejudices and biases towards gay people. Ironically, some of the most homophobic people I've met have been deaf. Being deaf has nothing to do with whether someone accepts homosexuality or is prejudiced towards gay people; we are influenced by society, our parents(!), and our friends. I've met Deaf people who were accepting of gays and Deaf people who were not; just as I've met hearing people who have no problem with gay people and hearing people who think its a sin.
Its incredibly inappropriate to air out your hatred on this forum, and misguided to think that you should take your biases out on Christopher Corrigan. You should call Jerry Falwell instead, I'm sure he'd be happy to talk with you.

As for the mother with the deaf son and hearing son. It seems like you have so much anger. You probably think you did your best in raising your son, but, hey, no one is perfect and it looks like somewhere along the way, you inadvertenly messed up. As a HOH person with deaf parents, I can tell you that a lot of what you said is not true. My husband who is deaf, was raised by hearing parents who wanted him to hear so bad. They are so embarrassed of their deaf son that they have pretty much rejected him. They will tell me all kinds of lies and they are in denial. I've seen many deaf individuals who carries deep scars due to their parents mistakes. Like I said, we all make mistakes, it's not too late to say "i'm sorry, I did what I thought was right. I didn't know that it made your life hell". Forgive and make amends. Deaf people with loving kind hearing parents who never gave up and are always there for their kids are the BEST.

This is in response to the mother with two sons: one deaf son and one hearing son. After reading your email, I have been wondering what kind of mother you were to your deaf son. How did you feel when you discovered that your son is deaf? Did you treat both your deaf and hearing sons equally when they were growing up? Are you fluent in American Sign Language? I already have a suspension. Some deaf people are angry and messed up their lives because their parents do not accept their deafness and don't bother to learn sign language. It is a terrible tragedy.

Don't you dare question me as a mother and as a woman of good integrity. I am highly respected. I taught my son SEE and he learned the improper, dirty language of ASL. He does not know how to write very well in English. IMHO, ASL ought to be banned from all Deaf schools, universities and in the Deaf community. SEE should be the official language. I took my son to see " Children of a lesser god. " What does my husband and I see? The lights were turned on and we all saw the deaf dafts fighting with their fists and deaf girls ripping each other's hair. I had to cover my son's eyes as I did not want him to see blood and violence. We left quickly before the staff ejected these daft characters out of the cinema. I never allowed my son to watch " Children of lesser god " ever again, not even on t.v. I was truly horrified when the Deaf community attacked the wonderful Deaf actress, Marlee Matlin. My own son told me Marlee Matlin is not successful and I slapped his face so hard because that was complete disrespect for a wonderful woman and I told him to never talk like that about successful people ever again but he continues to backstab successful people. Take a good look at Christopher Corrigan who is just like my son and that is not a very successful man. This is a deeply troubled boy and we have done everything to help him be a successful man and he insulted me, Do you really want to know where those insults are from ? He learned to insult me through the deaf community. I have done nothing to insult the deaf community, yet you deaf daft punks have been insulting me as a mother for many years. I can remember when I sent my hearing son to Boy scout camp and I asked my deaf son if he wanted to go with his brother. He said no and he wanted to go to Deaf camp. I told him no because I knew what would happen. My husband was fed up and told me " Just send him to Deaf camp, here is the money and the registration. We need some peace and you need to have low blood pressure. We both need a break from him." He attended deaf camp and he got caught fighting then a few days later he was caught pressuring a girl to have sex and smoke the illegal substance called marijuana which I am sure college students are familiar with marijuana. I call the young punks who smoke the illegal substance the " Idiots " that they really are, idiots. My hearing son went on to earn badges and awards from the honorable organization, Boy Scouts of America. My hearing son gained vaublable skills and he is honest and very responsible. He budgets money very well. I am proud as a mother that my hearing son did not rape girls or force girls to smoke marijuana against her will. I treated both of my sons as equals and I am very sad to say my deaf son did not measure up like a man. The women were always asking for my hearing son. I was very proud of that, as a mother but I was very horrified when drunk and probably high on drugs men showed up asking for my deaf son and they were all men wanting homosexual sex with my deaf son. I was in tears and that really broke my heart and it sickens me that the deaf community loves being a homosexual. Homosexuality is widely accepted in the deaf community with so much a second thought as to what is really wrong with homosexuality. It is un-natural and homosexuality destroys families. I am a hearing mother to two sons. One of my sons are deaf and the another son is hearing.
My deaf son has always been a very wild child and he is always in trouble with the police. I have always been very deeply disappointed with my deaf son. He is a liar and a drug addict dragging his feet ahead and his life one step at a time, much to his own destruction.
I really hate what the deaf community has done to my son and now for the first time, I truly understand why he did not succeed at Gallaudet University. Yes, my son went there and I saw the kind of Deaf people he hung with, as a mother my stomach turned in knots as I left him at Gallaudet University that day. My son likes to say Gally and I find that digusting as a parent.
The problem is not the security officers.
The problem is the deaf community itself.
My another son is hearing and has always been a good and very wonderful child. He grew up and enlisted in the U.S. Navy and now works in a very honorable profession and my deaf son is always begging my hearing son for money.

I have the same problem with searching for a job too. I am sure many Gallaudet students and alumni are very alarmed and very angry because we can not find a job.

As you know, the various DPS assaults done during the protest have been reported to the DC Metropolitan Police Department Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB) and all new assaults or inappropriate conduct should continue to be reported to: the Chief of SOMB, Jon Shelton, Jon.Shelton@dc.gov, the assigned investigator Marlon Gainey, Marlon.Gainey@dc.gov, and cc your correspondence to DPS Chief Meloyde Batten-Mickens at Meloyde.Batten-Mickens@gallaudet.edu, DPS Chief's boss Paul Kelly at Paul.Kelly@gallaudet.edu, as well as President Davila at President@gallaudet.edu. You should get a speedy response and resolution if you make sure you include all these people in your email. Good luck and please persevere in your efforts to ensure safety and justice on campus!!
DPS Brutality
That is not right for students to live with fear. That is such an unhealthy atmosphere at Gallaudet.
DPS Butality
I was disheartened to hear what happened to him. Apparently he was singled out for brutality because of his involvement with the protest last fall. Something needs to be done!!!
