Dr. Marshall is signing very big because it is a formal setting; I trust all of us know that when we are standing up in front of a very large audience, we have to create larger movements to communicate ourselves. Dr. Marshall's choice of signs could be better, but he is also clear. That is a public speaking skill. I also bet that the interpreters were able to translate his signs into voice exactly what Dr. Marshall intended to commnunicate. I, a native ASL signer, also understood him very well, and appreciate his ability to communicate with several audiences all at the same time. This is a skill, unfortunately, that a *LOT* of Deaf people lack.
what the fuck is that man tryin to say about himself, even though his sign is sooo fumped up...i guess this freak old bastard man needs to regrammer his sign to make clear and loud. I dont get it..LMOA!!!
You need to reprogram *YOUR* grammar. It is LMAO not LMOA. For someone to ridicule someone else, that person needs to be proficient in the very subject he is mocking another.
At the risk of (though hopefully not) insulting someone...I have a feeling that there is something wrong with this mans signing when I, a second year ASL student, was horrified while watching it. Good lord.

Oh my goodness, I've never seen the worst thing like this ever before. It is a language mockery that Dr. William Marshall entertained in ridiculing ASL. It's unacceptable!
Davila is a true BILINGUAL, you idiot! He knows Spanish and English, therefore he is a bilingual. I just cannot believe how naive you can be. Assuming that Davila is all pro- for Total Communication and not promoting the use of ASL/English as the languages of instruction for Deaf/HH children. He might have changed since 1989. You cannot judge him based on his past practices - remember that bilingual education for the Deaf/HH children emerged in the early 1990s with more research showing that it might work for students in the field of Deaf education.
Give Davila a break! I want him to lead Gallaudet because he can put the university back together once again! I have full confidence in his abilities to lead as the interim president of Gallaudet University.
I just read Ridorlive.com about Dr. Davila's stance on ASL...it is confirmed. I have the letter itself from Davila to Senator Harkin. Even though it was from 1989, I have grave concerns about the fact that he may have been partially responsible for the thousands of children who remains illiterate today in both languages, ASL and English, because he did not support ASL/English as a bilingual right for Deaf children.
Now Marshall... after watching this footage and reading his letter of intent, will we be able to understand him without closed captioning? His letter of intent was pretty negative... I'm not sure he is the right person to help this community heal if he cannot communicate wth us effectively with an air of optimism. At the end of this video, his comment appears to be paternalistic. Telling new freshmen to "not to disappoint [their parents]." That is the kind of thing you tell children in elementary school...but not adults in college.
My vote is with Weiner. His letter of application, have you read it? It can be found on MishaKazena's site (http://blog.deafread.com/mishkazena). Pretty optimistic with an emphasis on community building/healing.. I feel that his leadership style is what we will need for the next 18 months- as opposed to Davila or Marshall's.
