In the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, a battle is unfolding that could have implications for the future of deaf education. During a week when much of the Deaf community’s attention was elsewhere, a small charter school went head to head with a local neighborhood group, with the future of hundreds of deaf children at stake.

NAD announces Landmark ADA Precedent

NAD has announced a Landmark Precedent in ADA Law stemming from the NAD vs Netflix Lawsuit. 

Netflix attempted to have the lawsuit dismissed before the trial started, claiming that the ADA only applied to physical places, and not internet-only businesses. This motion was denied. 

This ruling means the lawsuit against Netflix due to the lack of captioning for their online video services will proceed.

Harkin pushes Military to Allow Deaf to serve

Captioned Video provided by U.S. Senator Tom Harkin during his questioning of Defense Secretary Panetta about what is being done to allow disabled people to serve in the military, and explictly mentions a Deaf man who wishes to serve. 

Secretary Panetta responsed that he promised to get something done, and would explore a pilot program.
