Journalism as Deaf Community Building

Transcript:

Signcasts is an attempt to find out how to successfully provide news to the deaf community. Of course, the deaf have our own needs, but model and concept of journalism should be the same. The key problem is in finding which model of journalism would work best. The first key to understanding this question is in understanding that the deaf community is not a geographic community, but one of shared interests.

Choices

A choice I had to make reflects upon what is important to the deaf community.

Announcement for Open Forum Meeting

You can see me signing in the video, which shows how the deaf community has new opportunities to share information. I want to propose a plan to help take full advantage of these technologies to benefit the community through what is called citizen journalism.
I will provide a presentation and open forum for the Twin Cities area in order to explain this vision, and discuss how it can benefit the community.

The forum will be at St. Paul Merriam Park Library (across from Thompson Hall) Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m.
If you wish to learn more, help the community or get involved, please attend.
